Intelect Connects Technology to Construction

In 1995 Rohit H. Patel recognized technology was going to be integral to not only how we work and live, but how buildings and infrastructure works for who use them. He founded Intelect Corporation as an innovative technology integrator to the general contracting firms, providing technology solutions from design to completion.

The firm, whose headquarters are based in Baltimore, Maryland, began with a few customers, primarily within public transportation, and with several leading integrators and manufacturers. Some of the earliest projects included wiring specifications for complex communications systems, as well as contracts to perform low voltage and high voltage electrical upgrades for transportation facilities. Intelect Corporation has remained focused on customized design and engineering of new solutions for Intelligent Transportation Systems, and installation and maintenance of low voltage on-board intelligent surveillance systems, access control, revenue collection equipment, smart card systems, digital annunciators, variable message signs, obstacle detection systems, telecommunications, and other computer-based electrical subsystems.

Innovation is Intelect’s middle name. “We own several patents and plan to apply for new patents in the near future to make our world an easier and better place to live in while saving the client and end user money,” says Patel, who still owns the company.

Recent work completed includes radio networking systems for State of Maryland first responders; numerous solar system projects for commercial construction clients in Baltimore and Washington, DC; WiFi networks and RF DAS networks for a commercial client in Washington, DC; and other IT consulting projects throughout the Greater Metro area.

Intelect believes in an innovative workforce. To that end, it provides lateral and vertical growth opportunities to all its employees. “We provide training and mentorship for those who seek it, and when opportunities arise. In doing so, growth happens,” says Patel.

Using its own resources, Intelect Corporation has hired thousands of young local residents in need of skills training, such as understanding instructions, following and applying safety procedures, delivering quality work, and using tools properly, as well as life skills, such as showing up on time and dressing for success.

Recognized as a leading company, Intelect has won various awards for delivering value to its customers, including receiving the Baltimore Business Journal’s award for both the Fastest Growing Private Companies and the Largest Private Company; receiving the City of Baltimore’s award as one of the top 100 MBEs; an Inner City 100 Staples Diversity Leadership Award; and an Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Private Companies in the United States.
